When you’re traveling, it can be hard to save money, especially when it comes to meals. You might not want or have the ability to cook, and takeout can be expensive!

I hadn’t been to NYC since 2019 and I was happy to go back for a few writing events, including a flash fiction workshop where I wrote “Lost Ring.

Next time you are in NYC here are money saving tips:

It’s not a mirage. $.99 pizza still exists in NYC. Check it out: 99 Cent Pizza, 246 E 14th St, New York, NY 10003. There are also $1.50 slices, too, around the city.

I ended up using the app Too Good To Go for nine meals, saving over $90 and the world from food waste.

From Too Good To Go, I got three pieces of pizza for $4.99 from Zazzy’s Pizza,73 Greenwich Ave, New York, NY 10014.

And, a quinoa salad and chicken sandwich for $4.99 from an independent caterer, in the West Village, also on Too Good To Go.

I ended up trying eight restaurants and one grocery store with Too Good To Go in NYC. It was a lot of fun and I recommend it for traveling — only if you’re looking to save money, contribute to lessening food waste, and are open to trying new restaurants.

Check out more tips about how to use Too Good To Go from Business Insider’s review.
