3 Reasons I’m Participating in #NaNoWriMo2022
--
One day in October 2022, my landlord asked me how my writing was going.
I said great with a fake smile.
He knew I was lying.
I had growing list of story ideas with no stories.
What followed next can only be described as a pep talk. He proceeded to tell me about how Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed, and stared in three Rocky movies.
As most readers know, I love small talk. I wrote a whole book on it. It’s motivating when people take the time to talk to me about writing, whether it be mine, theirs, or someone else’s. There’s always something new to discover and learn.
I think a lot about the stories people choose to tell me, especially at this stage of my career in Los Angeles. In this case, I had no idea about the professional background of Sylvester Stallone. Furthermore, I saw the boxer metaphor as hitting close to home, literally.
This November 2022, I’m super motivated to participate in National Novel Writing Month. I’ve got Rocky on the brain and Stallone as my inspiration. It definitely feels like I’m training for an athletic competition and fighting for a new chapter filled with focus, practice, and measurement my progress.
While there are many reasons I chose to take part in National Novel Writing Month 2022, here are the top three:
- Challenge myself: With this new set of circumstances, I feel more accountable to the program and, at the same time, enthusiastic to achieve my goals.
- Meet new authors: I love being part of #NaNoWriMo on Twitter as well as the organization of the website and opportunities to attend events.
- Write BOOK 6: I feel ready and confident to (start and) finish BOOK 6 during this month.
To close, a special thanks to the team and participants of National Novel Writing Month for your dedication and inspiration. I’m looking forward to seeing where this chapter takes my career.
